Medicare will not cover the cost of an entire lift chair, but the lifting mechanism inside the lift chair will be covered for those who qualify. To file a claim for the lifting mechanism, you will need the following items and submit them to your local Medicare claims office:
1. A receipt for your lift chair purchase from Electric Scooters 4 Less
2. A Certificate of Medical Necessity (CMN)
3. A prescription from your doctor
Qualifications for Coverage:
- The person must not be able to stand from any chair in their home and they must be able to walk once they get to a standing position. If a person just has trouble getting up from a chair, no matter the height, is not sufficient justification for needing a lifting mechanism for it to be covered under Medicare.
- The person must have severe arthritis of the hip, knee or have a type of severe neuromuscular disease. The lifting mechanism must be part of the course of treatment by the doctor and be prescribed in an effort to improve the patient's condition or to prevent it from becoming worse.
- The lifting mechanism of the chair must operate smoothly and the patient must be able to control it themselves and come to a standing position without anyone else's help.
